Zeus Street Greek • Cronulla, Sydney

Zeus Street Greek is a recurrent choice for me. Meals are super yum, quick to get, with affordable prices and very well sized portions!

I often get a pita for take away, or my favourite: Spartan Box (what a meal!!!). But they are also a gorgeous place to have your meal in, service is always amazing and I simply love the young-ish and modern atmosphere.

Another thing I love about this place is that you can easily find them in different cities around Australia! Can’t count how many times I was saved by them while traveling. 😀

My order

As I said, I often go there but for this blog purpose I decided to register only one of our meals. This is usually what we have:

  • To share: Dips – Tzatziki, Beetroot Hummus, and Smoky Eggplant with pita bread.
  • Mine: Spartan box with chicken, seasonal salad, smoky eggplant, and pilaf rice.
  • Hubby: Stavros Stavrou pita – Grilled Haloumi, Aegean slaw, olive tapenade, caramelised onions, tzatziki, tomato & parsley.

There is a huge variety of pitas, dips, and sides. But for me, the best meal is always the Spartan Box. You can create your own and I love this kind of stuff. Pick a type of meat, 2 different sides, and a dressing. Simply perfect.

The Greek Islands Taverna • Sutherland, Sydney

Posted on

We decided to go to The Greek Islands Taverna in Sutherland to have a beautiful lunch and celebrate my new job (yes this blog is a hobby and I have a full-time job!). The idea was to eat A LOT and this place didn’t disappoint us at all.

I might say that the choice was perfect! We had exactly what we were craving for: lots of good food, right price, and that super full and happy feeling after a nice meal! 🙂

My order

We got the Set Menu 1 with the Meat Platter for two. Their menu says minimum for 4 people but the water said they would be happy to do it for us. Let the feast begins!

  • Fresh bread
  • Taramosalata dip – made from fish roe, olive oil, lemon juice, and grated onions.
  • Greek salad
  • Pan-fried halloumi cheese, spanakopita (spinach pie) and tyropita (pastry filled with cheese).
  • Pan-fried calamari.
  • BBQ Octopus.
  • Meat platter – Souvlaki, lamb cutlets, pork chops, quails, loukanika (greek sausages), and hot chips./li>
  • Cheesecake served with vanilla ice cream and cream.
  • Bourekakia – home-made pastries filled with semolina custard, pan-fried, and drizzled with syrup and cinnamon, served with ice cream and cream.

I said we were prepared to eat… A LOT! 🤣

Every single bite was spot-on. Portions are extremely generous, and if you are a meat lover like us, man that meat plater will be like a dream to you.

No, we couldn’t finish it all, there was a time we had to start prioritizing what to eat, so the hot chips were left behind (sorry for them). I don’t know you, but when I go to this kind of place I always prioritize things that are either harder to make, and let’s be honest, hot chips you can get anywhere!

The only side note I would like to leave is regarding one of the desserts, the Bourekakia. This was my choice (Hubby got the cheesecake), but it wasn’t my type of dessert. Found it kinda blend, so Hubby generously switched desserts with me. 🙂

Kuroneko Ramen Noodle Bar | Sutherland

Posted on

Kuroneko Ramen Noodle Bar is one of my favourite local spots in the Sutherland Shire. I simply love their dishes, always packed with flavour and with an amazing presentation. They remind me a lot those family-owned restaurants I visited in Tokyo and Kyoto.

They serve a huge range of traditional Japanese dishes, such as ramen, udon and rice bowls. All equally delicious. Interestingly enough, aside from serving all this traditional Japanese goodness, they are very creative and open minded. A few months ago they decided to provide a new noodle option to their customers: shirataki.

In case your are not familiar, shirataki noodles are gluten-free and super low carb noodles, with less than 2 grams of carbs per 100g. Amazing, don’t you think? Of course, I had to try it out.

My order

I’ve decided to try my ramen with shirataki noodles and Hubby got a traditional Udon.

  • Mine: Tonkotsu ramen – pork belly chashu, soft boiled egg, spring onions, wood ear mushroom, and shirataki noodles.
  • Hubby: Kara-age Chicken Udon – served in a bonito and shitake mushroom broth.
  • Side of pork gyoza to share

I don’t know about you, but I simply LOVE ❤️ Ramen. I’m crazy about the broth, and honestly don’t care much about the noodle. Actually, I often feel it is too much, and I end up leaving some in the bowl so I have enough space for the broth.

Having said that, shirataki noodles were perfect! They are super light, don’t add any different or unauthentic flavour to the dish, and I finally managed to eat a whole bowl of yummy ramen. 🙂

Regarding Hubby’s Udon, he loved it. The broth was perfect, noodles firm enough and the fried chicken to die for. About the gyozas, perfectly sized portion and incredibly delicious.

If you happen to live in the Shire, or maybe just touristing around, this place definitely deserves your visit!
Totally recommended:⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Out there: Albero-di-lemone Trattoria | Sutherland

I need to tell you, my food weakness is pizza. Every now and then I make it at home, always trying some low carb recipes and playing around with different toppings. This is totally fun and I love it!

However, when I spot a really good pizza place I make exceptions to my diet routine, allowing me to indulge once in a while with a good and traditional Italian pizza, and this is the case with Albero-di-lemone Trattoria, in Sutherland, Sydney.

Their pizza is so good that’s worth every gram of gluten and refined carbs in it. But, before you go all sad and think this is not for you, hold on a minute! There is a gluten free crust available, not to mention delicious risotto and salad options. They also have specials every day, with different flavours for pizza, risotto and salad that are not on their regular menu!

Entree

We (Hubby and I) had been there several times, so the following photos are a collection of dinners, ok? 😛

Normally we get for the entree:

  • Buffalo mozzarella, extra virgin olive oil, chilli e basil (GF)
  • Garlic and herb pizza

Mains

Their pizza serves well two people, leaving room for an entree or a dessert. The risotto, however, is HUGE and I advise you to not get anything else in case this is your choice. Below a few things we already tried:

  • Margheritta: the classic mozzarella, tomato e basil pizza.
  • Napoli: olives, anchovy, capers e pesto.
  • Risotto: roasted pumpkin, prosciutto, fontina, oregano. (GF)

Hmm, I dream with this risotto every now and then…

About their pizza, the crust is very crunchy and thin enough. Toppings come in a good quantity, they use very good quality ingredients and their tomato sauce is fantastic!

I highly recommend trying their special pizza flavours! We had it a couple of times and we absolutely loved.

A break from our sequence of Japan posts, but still in the Asian cuisine. 😀

I had to after all, I’ve found a delicious place in Sutherland – Sydney, called Moonlight Vietnamese Restaurant, and I MUST share this place with you!

There you will find not only traditional Vietnamese dishes, such as pho, rice paper rolls, and yummy wrap options, but also some Australian fusion dishes and many gluten and nut free alternatives as well.

My order

For our dinner that night, we decided to have as appetisers the Goi Cuon (Vegetarian Rice Paper Roll), filled with vermicelli rice noodles, fresh greens and tofu.

Everything was delicious, and the servings come in a very good-sized portion. My curry was creamy, silk and filling.

I’ve tried my husband’s dish – duck – and that crispy skin was from heavens. He liked this dish so much that he ordered it again the other time we were there!

I had been there on a few other occasions (no photos, sorry) and I highly recommend the place. Food is always delicious, packed with flavour, generously served and staff is very polite.

Ah! This place is B.Y.O for any type of drinks, A$ 2,00 corkage fee.
