Three views walk
Here you have – yep, you guessed right, three easy and relatively short trails to pick from.
In case you are not in a hurry you can do all of them in the morning.
The trails are flat and don’t have much to offer along the way (just a nice walk), but the reward is at the end of each one of them, with breathtaking views.
You can see below photos from each view.
If you have to pick between one or two of the trails, I suggest picking the Shoalhaven River View (the longest trail) and/or Lake Yarrunga View (the shortest one).
On our way back from the Kangaroo Valley we made sure to pass by another famous pie shop included in that pie trail I mentioned before: this time was Robertson Pie Shop.
This shop ranks high in all restaurants reviews in that area, and after seeing the insane number of cars parked in front of the shop, we were sure it was worth a try (and our time).
It was almost 3pm when we arrived and the shop was packed!
There was a huge line but the service was very efficient and quick. Despite the length, I can say we spent a maximum of 15 minutes in the line.
As we had a kinda long way home we decided to get a takeaway, so we could have a snack in the car and something else for dinner at home. Our choices were:
Regular chicken, leek, and camembert pie.
Family size of classic beef and mushrooms pie.
Both pies were truly delicious and had a very generous amount of filling, super creamy and tasty.
I also enjoyed their pastry, it is a different kind – when compared to Southern Pies we’ve also visited – buttery and flaky, but also incredibly tasty.
I must say that this kind of pastry is not ideal to eat in the car 🚙 (yeah, a bit messy 😜), but once we had the family one for dinner at home, oh boy, it was sooooo good that I didn’t care for any mess around earlier in the car.
There you will find many other flavours, including sweet and gluten free! I didn’t try any sweet pie, but while there I saw that the apple and cream pie was a very popular, pretty much every single table had one. So I would bet this is a good choice. 🙂
A couple of weeks ago, on a lovely winter weekend, hubby and I decided to get the car and spend the day in the Kangaroo Valley (south of Sydney). Our idea was to have a relaxing day walking around the area, spending time around the charming town they have and of course eat some pies.
Maybe you don’t know, but Kangaroo Valley is well-known for their pie shops. There is even a pie trail with more than 24 shops listed!
This time we decided to try only one in their list, and the chosen one was this place called Southern Pies.
This place has been awarded over the years for many of their pies flavours. A highly recommended option is their cheeseburger pie, but that day we decided to play safe and try the classics first. So we got:
Mine: Classic beef.
Hubby: Steak, bacon, and cheese.
Both topped with mashed potatoes, mashed peas, and gravy.
I loved it! ❤️ The pie has a good size, and the extra toppings make it a real meal. Everything was super tasty and yum! The pastry in kinda puffy but not flaky, ideal for a non-messy experience. 😀
We had it for lunch and it was enough to keep us up and running. I reckon it was something around A$11 for each pie + all the toppings. They also sell family size pies, coffee, and a few dessert options.
They also have frozen pies you can take home and prepare yourself at a later occasion, or maybe just to have for dinner on the same day. 🙂
