Barcelona was the greatest surprise I had during my holidays in Europe. I’ll be honest with you, I didn’t have huge expectations and Barcelona was never on my bucket list of cities to visit one day. However, Hubby is a crazy soccer fan and this was a must place to go for him. So, why not?

To my surprise, I simply loved the city. Barcelona is modern and charming, super busy and extremely cosmopolitan. For me, the high point was all the cuisine varieties you could find, from every single place in the world. They are also in the healthy food trend, so I mean can’t complain at all.

But this is not all, the city is beautiful, their architecture is unbelievable, I was always walking looking to the buildings and all that mix between old, fashion, and modern architecture.

I had 4 amazing days there, which I’ll be happily sharing with you now.
If you want to get straight to the point, here you can get my Google Maps with all the main attractions conveniently marked for you.

Keep reading if you would also like an overview of these attractions.

Day 1

Mercado de La Boqueria

Everything you can do on a day trip to Girone!

When I decided to go to Spain last year, I was sure I wanted to visit one of those Medieval Spanish cities. Then after some research, I found Girona, and for my surprise, this wasn’t any medieval city, THIS WAS THE CITY WHERE GAME OF THRONES WAS FILMED! Yep, all in caps so I make my message very clear. lol

If I’m not mistaken most of all season 6 was filmed there. You get scenes from Bravos, Oldtown and Kings Landing. It was fantastic to stroll through all the streets and lanes from this place and remember of scenes from the show. You can check here my Google Maps with the main spots, plus some extra historical sites that Girona has.

What we did then

Plaça de la Independència
Very pleasant space on your way to the Medieval city, with many restaurants and cafes around. Perfect for a quick coffee before you go and explore the city.

Rocambolesc Gelateria • Girona

Rocambolesc is a very fun gelateria in Girona Spain. There is not only a great variety of different ice cream flavors (like asparagus) but also super cool popsicles with different shapes and flavors. They even have a Game Of Thrones themed option!

My order

For that hot summer day, these were our choices:

  • Strawberry and milk ice cream.
  • Hand – Blood Orange and Mango sorbet.

As you can see we played save flavor-wise, that strawberry and milk ice cream were super creamy and soft. Simple but direct to the point.

The highlight goes to THE HAND, yep, Jaime Lannister’s hand. This popsicle wasn’t only delish but was super fun to eat and to take photos of course. However, I might say that I preferred the ice cream better.

The verdict

Fun and cool place to visit while in Girone. In case you are a Game of Thrones fan, please help yourself with one of the themed ice creams. 🙂

Konig 2

In case you are a Game of Thrones fan like me and decided to take a day trip to visit Girona, Konig 2 is a great place to have some tapas, coffee, and rest before exploring the city a bit more.

My order

I really love this Spanish tapa thing, you get to try a bit of everything without getting extremely full. For that day we decided to go with the following:

  • Hubby: Frankfurt, brie and caramelized onion and Premium 1973 burger – hamburger, goat cheese, baby tomatoes, parmesan cheese, and “pitta” sauce.
  • Mine: Saute vegetables, chicken breast, and serrano ham.
  • To share: Red Sausages Brochettes and Orange and cinnamon cappuccino.

In overall food was good and tasty. Prices are fair and you get to eat and rest in a very nice environment. I believe it’s ideal for those that are not super hungry but need a little something to recover the energy for the rest of the day.

The verdict

It’s definitely a nice place for a snack, quick meals and a coffee. Super well localized, you can easily reach this place while strolling through the city.
